Quite/Under

For one Dancer, Video Projection and Sound, Bologna December 2013

Alice Bariselli, Choreographer

This is an electroacoustic work to accompany dance choreography in an intimate exploration of the body. Body protects and contains memories: an investigation into the relationship of sonic textures and tactile perception developed in the body, in time.

I have researched for quite a long time certain textures of sound that Alice had found matching with her inspiration. These textures were from sonic materials taken from anywhere and elaborated electronically, mostly via experimental granular processes, that is recording the resulting output of granular processing used and controlled via interactive software strategies. It has been, then, a long work of expanding each texture and joining it with several others, taking also in mind that Alice artistic design needed variety but subtleness, slow evolution but energy and emotion.

Our efforts paid off, as the performance was the winner of the GD’A Prize Emilia-Romagna for Choreography 2013.
